SPEAKER_05Hey you guys, been a long week. Hope you caught that last episode last week. It was fun and exciting. Um, today, you know, we got a new guest joining us today. You guys, we have Tay Love.
SPEAKER_01How are you doing? Listen, listen. Oh, yeah, I got the classic. Okay.
SPEAKER_05Alrighty, you guys. Let's talk about a little bit. Let's talk a little bit about Tay Love, man. I love this man. He's so humble. He's a musician, entrepreneur. He produces your sound. He consult and coach within the music industry. The name of his uh record label is Slap House Records. I know y'all know who uh Tay Love is doing them beats. He's been in business now for seven years. You guys, so he out here in the Milwaukee area. If you don't know, you better ask somebody. Man, what's up today? What's been going on? How your day is going so far?
SPEAKER_02Good. Have some time for y'all today, you know. Come to see.
SPEAKER_05Okay, you know, the little people in town. Come see them. Well, we thank you. Thank you so much for coming on today and joining us. Um, man, let's let's talk a little bit. What what first got you into music?
SPEAKER_03Uh, just liking it so much, always being around it. That's probably first uh first and foremost. Um, I did like band and stuff like that in middle school, so early on I was into making it, you know what I mean? But before that, I just liked a certain music and I wasn't allowed to listen to it, but I always listened to it. That just, you know what I mean, made me grow. Learn like music history and all of that stuff, like with certain people that I like, stuff like that, and that's just where it came from for real. Me just really wanting to make it. I just felt like I understood it early on.
SPEAKER_05So you said you did band in school. What in high school?
SPEAKER_03Mm-mm. Middle school.
SPEAKER_05Middle school?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05What's you played an instrument?
SPEAKER_03The drum. The drums.
SPEAKER_05You still know how to play the drums?
SPEAKER_03Probably not like how I did then. I did not I did just recently in the summer. I was okay, but I couldn't, I wasn't really a drum set person because I'm kind of like ambidextrous, so it was like, it was just hard to just do all of that at once. For me, you know what I mean? I didn't really have no dominant hand. But playing the snare itself, I was always cool with that. Like I I could still do that. But the drum set, it just was too much going on for me. Like I can, I can I know what I would want to hear, but I couldn't do it. So it'd just be like, I would just play the snare.
SPEAKER_05So well, what made you pick the drums? Or did they pick the drums for you?
SPEAKER_03I think I picked the drums. Um it's just like the I don't know, even though, like with what I do, it's just like the heartbeat of everything. It's the if the you could do anything with drums with nothing else, and you you people know what to do, whatever type of mood it is, you wouldn't have to need nothing else. It's like, so that's where I liked it. And um, it was around the time drumline came out too. So it was So you was like, okay. Yeah, it was like the thing. So let me get into the drum. Okay. It was like the thing. So it was it was cool. And it just all fit. And where I went, you had to do some uh at Moore's. You had to do like orchestra or bend. Okay. So it was like really like the boy thing to play the drum. So it was like I just stuck with it. It was cool.
SPEAKER_05You was like, I'm not gonna do the flute or the violin right now. You're gonna say that for the ladies, huh?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because I couldn't do the I couldn't do guitar because of how my my hand in my hand in it was like I couldn't really like get all the way into it. I would I would start here one way and flip it the other way. I'd never be able to get a rhythm. So I could do the drum. That was my thing back then.
SPEAKER_05Oh, that's what's up. You said you couldn't listen to certain music. What what's certain music back then you couldn't listen to?
SPEAKER_03Uh anything that just was like some street music. It wasn't that I couldn't listen to it. It just was like I would overdo it. Like I wouldn't listen to nothing else. And my mom's is she born and raised in Mississippi, so like she likes certain stuff, but she ain't into it for real. Like, she'll listen to it if she in the mood, but as far as for everything I do, that's what I'm listening to. It was more to it than what they were saying to me, because I really ain't have an understanding of everything back then in the first place. I just liked it. But she just went with it. She thought, you know what I mean? Like, like the video game. It's the same, like the influence, the influence thing. So that's really what it was. But after a while, she just seen it, just was like I was gonna get it one way or another. Like I did everything. I I I used to go to the stores, get tapes, buy CDs from dudes, to point out selling CDs just because I was able to, you know what I mean, always find something then nobody else have. That's where it came from with me.
SPEAKER_05Uh, okay. That's what's up. Who inspired you to make music?
SPEAKER_03To make it, um, I had cousins. I had a cousin that was making music growing up. And um, I used to go around them a lot, but they used to be making beats, and I used to like uh get on songs with them, stuff like that. And I I also grew up like around baby Jew too. So I used to when I was young, I used to be with him when he'll be chilling with his son, and I'd be, you know me in the household, whatever, like family relation, whatever, and I'd just be seeing certain stuff, just like, I don't know, like, and then remembering it, I was there when he wrote that, and then I hear it, it was like I just always knew like I could, like, I don't know. It just was a it was a thing. Like, my older brother, they did music and stuff like that, but they didn't, nobody took it serious. I seen people do it, but then nobody do it to where like somebody, I could ask somebody else about them and they know.
SPEAKER_05They were just having fun?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and I was like, I never understood, like, why you just having fun? Like it's music. I thought people supposed to like your song.
SPEAKER_05So put it out here, huh?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so once I got like around the software to use, which I always seen and stuff like that. Once I kind of started like learning what YouTube was, it was like, it's just, I don't know, it just all came natural. Like I can't even tell people how I learned how to make beats. You know what I mean? Because I was doing it every day, whether it was weak or not. Like every day I might start and stop and just finish and watch YouTube and just wait till the next day, hear something, and just keep trying at it before I knew it. I was I was making beats, it was just like a like a natural thing.
SPEAKER_05How old was you when you started?
SPEAKER_03For real, when I started, probably like 14.
SPEAKER_0514?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, like 14, like eighth grade, ninth grade.
SPEAKER_05Did you have like your own equipment, make equipment, or kind of dip and dab, used other people's equipment? I know back then you ain't have anything, but like what would you use or do?
SPEAKER_03Uh I used the regular, the regular keyboard from the computer as a piano, because once I I taught myself that, like I just started pressing and I learned it didn't make noise too, so I just used that. Um they had these mics at school. They used to, you know, I had how you had a little desktop mic that you just you sit there. I took one of those home. I was like, because it used to be a box of them at Madison. Like, we had a computer lab with plenty of stuff in there, and then we didn't even use it. We didn't use some of the mouses that was new, the headphones, like it just was sitting there. So I just was like, I don't know. I never really got in trouble for nothing at school for real, for real, unless I did something I wasn't supposed to. So like people like me, so I just they seen me grab it. I just took it with me, and I just was using it though. It was like, if they asked for it, I would have took it back. But you know what I mean? That's what I was using though, because it just to me it was like, I just need a microphone. Like I just need something other than a headphone. That's what I started using, like a headphone for a microphone. I'm like, that ain't gonna work. That don't sound right. So I just went in, you know, just use your resources, you know how it goes.
SPEAKER_05Right. Like right now, how would you describe like the m the music that you um typically create?
SPEAKER_03It's kind of like a I feel like it's like a soundtrack of just where we at. Even we just when I produce for other people, like I just don't think you're gonna get the reaction or the vibe you're gonna get from no other city and no other place. You know what I mean? Like, so I'm big on that. Like, I don't know. I think everything that I make and do just kind of represent where I'm from. Just the good, the bad, the ugly, not even necessarily a certain topic. It's just like we got a vibe to us out here. Like, you know, you come around a good person, it's a certain bounce to them. It's just a certain, like, you know what I mean? That's why I feel like it comes with his heart beats, but a lot of the sounds is not really like hard and dark, you know what I mean? I kind of like, you know, party vibe or whatever you want to do to it. That's kind of where I be at with it. Like, I stopped kind of trying to sound other, make, make, I guess, a quote like industry sound. I stopped because I don't know, it's just that's more frustrating than anything, trying to box yourself. So I just feel like me doing it the way I learn how to listen to music is just the best way. So however it make me feel is however it comes out, but I think it's all I just rooted from just like Milwaukee. You know what I mean? Because that's just what you see and what you know, so that's just what's gonna come out. That's how I feel about it.
SPEAKER_05Do you get frustrated sometimes or uh as far as on like is it difficult to kind of produce certain sounds for people? Like if you don't feel that they vibe or energy?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, if I ain't if you're not really vibing right, it might not come out right. But as far as me, like once I got like a certain level of confidence with it, because it was still new to me to like to go from like playing football or whatever in college and just this a whole nother world. Like I'm trying to, I'm, I'm like, like, it's it's it's it's regular as far as you dealing with people, whatever the case is, but everybody trying to get something from somebody. And I ain't really like used to that, being around people that really just trying to get something out of somebody so they can go do something. Like, it just was new to me to see people have their own agendas even when they dealing with you. So once I got confidence in what I was doing, it was like it wouldn't really matter who it was or what was going on. I I could kind of put myself in a position to get you what you want, because that's really what you want. You coming to get a service when it comes to certain people. So once I got to a certain level where I know I could do this, I just was able to be able to produce whatever it was you asked for. You know what I mean? Because that's what practice for. Be able to just, if you put in like an awkward position and be able to like just bounce out of it and handle your business whenever you, you know what I mean? Right. That's why I think. So I I think I'm past the frustration level. I was there for a minute where I wanted to press my sound a certain type of way, but I'm getting requested to do X, Y, and Z. But you don't want to miss out on no money either. You know what I mean? It's a business at the end of the day, so I had to learn to kind of just break down my own wall and not be like stiff. Stiff and stiff. You know what I mean? And just if that's what you ask for, that's what you're gonna get. And I'm gonna do it the best so that you can come back and get some more, whatever it is, because it's a learning thing too when you do something different. So that's how I look at it. I've been doing all types of crazy stuff lately, like, but it's a blessing though, because I never did it before. It'd be stuff that people been telling me to get into that I wouldn't do by myself, but you know, God sent people how we do it, just send it. Yeah, and it's just more nothing. Exactly. That's gonna keep you moving. Yeah, that's how I approach it.
SPEAKER_05As long as well, when it's fun, it it really works, because then it just only creates it.
SPEAKER_03If I'm having fun, I'll go to sleep. I'll cut everything off and go lay down. Like if I feel like I'm doing too much, like I I learned that a long time ago. Cause that's the whole point of me putting the effort in, because I don't like really doing too much of other stuff or like having rules or whatever. So I kind of like moving on my own beat. So that's how I approach it. I gotta have fun, whatever I do. I gotta like or feel like doing it. You know what I mean? Right. It ain't gonna be the same.
SPEAKER_05What is your creative process like when you Tay Love getting in the mood and just ready? What's that?
SPEAKER_03I don't know, because it's a routine. Now, more than anything, I I like when I'm in the car. I don't really listen to my stuff. I just listen to whatever be playing. It could be all rap or some old school, whatever, you know what I mean? 90s music or something like that. I just like, I just let it play. I don't know. I don't have a specific nothing to listen to when I get in the car and I think that's where it comes from. Like, whatever mood I get from when I come out the car back to my area, whatever, to make beats, I think that's what's gonna come out. Or even if I just get up, a lot of times if it's just a fresh day, I don't know. It's just I just know to do it. You know what I mean? It's like it ain't nothing else to do but do it. Like, cause that's the only way it's gonna happen. It's not gonna happen for me just like trying to schedule times. Alright, I'm gonna make beats this day. Like, if I got 30 minutes, I'm gonna go in the basement and make some beats. If I got an hour, I'm gonna go do that. I might go, I can't even play the game no more. I really can't even sit and play the game no longer than 20 minutes no more. Cause it's like I be thinking, like, damn, I did just sit here for like an hour. I ain't do nothing for an hour. You know what I mean? Right, that's that mindset changing. Cause it's like I did that with football, you know what I mean? I was smaller, but I did go out of how many ever does on the team, I had like seven offers to go play football. And I always, that just always stuck to me. Like I just always been that type of way. Like if I felt like I'm gonna do it, I could just do it. But I knew what it takes to do it, you know what I mean? Because I wasn't the best at that, I wasn't the best at this. So it's like I don't compete with nobody, but it just be like I I be, I discipline, you know, just discipline, really. I didn't have a lot of discipline early on, like as a teenager, so like it just come with, it didn't came with time. And now that you like a career, whatever, you gotta be like that. And I don't, I don't want to like, I ain't scared to fail, you know what I mean? I try stuff. Of course, you don't want to lose, but I can't, if it, if if something happened and my goal ain't ain't don't get reached, it's not like I wasn't trying. You get what I'm saying? So it's like I feel better that way with me just doing it the way that I do it and being able to manage. But so far it's so good though.
SPEAKER_05So that's what's up. That's that's nice to hear. Who would you most likely um like to if you was able to collaborate with anybody, who would that be?
SPEAKER_02Um I'm trying to think.
SPEAKER_03It's a couple people, but production-wise, um I feel like somebody like Jazzy Fay or Manny Fresh, um, some people from our west like Battle Cat. This is stuff that I be listening to, because it's like they make music. They make, I don't know, they just make real music. They've been in every genre, they, every genre, every, every generation of music, like they be there. They there every time. Like, it'd be like to me, if you can make time this music, you'll be able to eat forever. You know what I mean? That's what I be like big on. Like, make like even with what I do as far as working with other people that go hand in hand with me saying that, like, keeping your name good. You get what I'm saying? Them people that I ain't never seen, them get into it with an artist or like they come out and there's some weird stuff about them or whatever the case is. It's just like a good face card and consistency. I ask what I them the type of people that I want to work with, because they probably got benefits outside of music too that they done figured out. You know what I mean? It's like this just this just like me to get me in the door of just a certain level of being comfortable, you know what I mean? But I know I gotta do certain stuff with this before I can even think about, you know what I mean? Just just this being rich or whatever the case is. It's like Rick Ross and other people, they've been doing what they've been doing 10, 15 years. Don't nobody know that though. But I be looking at that and you know what I mean? I'll look that type of stuff up, like, dude, drop the album in 95 or 93. It'd be like, okay, cool, then I ain't nowhere. I'm not supposed to be. You know what I'm saying? Because people could discourage you by telling you, like, you need to leave or you need to, but they don't see what you're doing. Yeah, you know what I mean. Stay focused. You know what I'm saying? That's and that's hard though. I'm not gonna say for me no more, but I got peers that I do this with. So it'd be like, it's people that I know certain, they got certain stuff in their computer or certain songs that they done produced where if it get in the right hands, I probably never see them again. But they they not able to be as consistent as I have been, or or just be in the middle of everything as I have been. You get what I'm saying? Like, I just notice like it's more than just having the talent. You know what I'm saying? It's just setting your business up to where people want to come deal with you and want to be able to talk to you, want to give you some money. You know what I mean? You gotta have a whole package for real if you're trying to do something and and outshine the next person that's been doing the same thing just as longer or longer. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_05Right.
SPEAKER_03So yeah.
SPEAKER_05What's some of the goals you got set up for the for your music?
SPEAKER_03Right now, production-wise, um, I had some stuff happen early on in the year with a couple artists that was like some decent names. So I know how that stuff goes. Probably next year I'll probably be, you know what I mean, see what that be looking like. Um for real though, I just really just set all my business up as far as like LLC and stuff like that. Like I've been had music business set up, but once I started getting like checks or whatever and residuals from it, I just was like, okay, I'm gonna go ahead and just make everything. Absolutely. Because certain conversations I'll be in and meetings and you know I mean, FaceTime calls I've been having lately, like, you know, uh, I don't got no problem signing to a label right now. You get what I'm saying? Because I kind of got myself set up to where I do everything. I produce, I could bring you artists. I got 50 people I work with on a regular end. I know 10 of them got enough money and talent to do whatever you want to do with them. It's just it's gonna be more than me being a producer. You get what I'm saying? Yeah, something like that. Or it just really consulting. Consulting just kind of be there to be able to. Right. Because I don't want to hold nobody's hand or just be responsible for organizing everything for you. Because I just know me when it comes socially, like I just I got my moments where I just want to be on what I'm on, but that could hurt somebody too. You get what I'm saying? So I'd rather be the person that can help you set up whatever it is you're trying to do independently. We do this, and then I get out your way. You get what I'm saying, and give you some game and I keep moving and just still producing like that. I don't really want to be in the world. That's kind of stuck in my feeling, right? You know what I mean? But I've done some stuff recently that, you know what I mean? I'm just praying on some people, they got situations that wouldn't have happened without me. That's kind of like the the go, you know what I mean, is to make that road bigger as far as for the city too, because we don't got really gatekeepers to stop people or help people for real. It ain't really either way here. So it's like that's what I've been doing. I I I deal with a lot of people that's not here. And people don't know that, but you know what I mean? The power of the phone and social media is crazy these days with what you could do or who you can meet and who attrust you with what you're saying, and you know what I mean? So that's really what I'm trying to do. So like not even just signing people, but putting other people in a position to probably do the same thing because if the city could grow, whatever it is that you're doing that you got motioned in, it's just gonna grow with the market. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_05You kind of keep your city on the map. Yeah, do you see yourself, you know, going to different states or you know, sometimes we start off here and then we we move around and kind of make it hard difficult for Milwaukee.
SPEAKER_03The city of Milwaukee just I want to outgrow it though.
SPEAKER_05Right.
SPEAKER_03Not just move because I feel like, uh, you know what I mean? Like I really want to outgrow it, set myself up to where like I done did what I had to do. You know what I mean? Like, I'm definitely not gonna let it be a crutch. Cause that's what you know what I mean, it could happen. It could really that I done seen it happen, you know what I mean? Um I really just want to be able to have outlets here. You get what I'm saying? For people that deserve them too, though. Like it ain't gonna everybody ain't gonna be able to be on that pedestal when I do what I gotta do and set it up for certain people, you know what I mean? But if you create it, you still gonna reach back for your city. Yeah, if it's if it's right though, you know what I mean? But creating a network though, like that'd be like everything. If I could create one here with other people that can reach out, it's just all types of resources. It's like with music, it's to me, it's like outside of other stuff black people could get into. This is an industry that like people could really, like, if you approach it the right way and you got the right mindset, this is something you could do and really play all types of roles and really do live for yourself. You know what I mean? Like I work, I don't have to, but I do because it's just security in me knowing like I need that irritation a little bit. You get what I'm saying? Of going to work. I do need to be a little irritated. It's more structured. Yeah, structured plan. So it just set me up for like to where like I know how to handle whatever comes when I do get something I ain't never had. It's just like I already been organized. Like, and I feel like I'm near, I don't gotta have what I want to have, but I just feel like the way I be thinking, I just know like when whatever happens, it's gonna happen the right way. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_05It's gonna fall in place.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's what I mean.
SPEAKER_05What what's uh state if you can definitely kind of transition to what state would you have in mind?
SPEAKER_03I just I like California, but it's just really like that's I got a lot of business out there. I deal with a lot of people that do music out there. Um I don't know, I don't got nothing specific anywhere down south though, like any one of the majors. Southern states probably you get what I'm saying? Something like that. Like I really don't want to just move anywhere, but Texas seemed cool, Georgia seemed cool. It just would I don't know. It would have to, I feel like something would have to present itself for me to be like, okay, that's where I'ma go. You get what I'm saying? Because I done been places, but I don't know. I just I don't even know if I done seen enough. You get what I'm saying? So it could be that too. You know what I'm saying? But I like the South though. Me personally, I just like my people. So it'd be like anywhere we we doing good at, or it's it's cool for us to be around each other and we embracing each other. I like that. That's why I like to be around for real.
SPEAKER_05If you can um open up a show for any artist, who would you pick?
SPEAKER_03Right now, I'm gonna say little baby. If you open up a little baby, man, you doing so right. So yeah, I got me open up a show little baby, man. Um yeah, probably little baby, cuz I don't know, dude is on fire. Like, they whole setup is right. He got endorsements, you know what I mean? His content. He could talk about whatever he wants, but the imagery be right. You get what I'm saying? It's just like, it's set up, I just like how they they put him out there, you know what I'm saying? It wasn't about where he came from, but the way that they they put it to you, it was like, it was clean, it was cool, you could use this for whatever brand you want to, like, that's important to me because that's how he's gonna be able to be who he is for forever. You get what I'm saying? Somebody might not have heard him, but they might have knew that black dude from the Haynes commercial or whatever the whatever the case is, like. So yeah. I'll open up a little baby, probably give me a t-shirt deal, you know what I mean? Go up there, wear somebody else's clothes. I'll do all type of stuff. It's you know what I'm saying? It's just ways to expand whatever it is you do. That's what I'll be thinking about. So yeah. Something like that.
SPEAKER_05What's ways um people can connect with you?
SPEAKER_03Um Instagram, uh, forum forte love, uh, my email, slaphouse records at Gmail, uh, slap with two Ps, House with a Z, not an S. And um, that's really the major ones for real. That's what I work. They be busy, but I I give back to everybody. You know what I mean? I make it happen. I'm only one person, so it'd be like it's hard. I don't really make beats with other people all the time. So I do everything by myself. I'm recording by myself, but I like it though. It keeps me busy. It's what I wanted to do. I can't cry about it.
SPEAKER_05Right. You got a couple records out yourself.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, they they out here banging.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I'm trying. I did, I used to a while ago, but lately I just was like, you know, I had a lot of songs that I liked it. They were sounding nice, and I just was like, well, I don't know, just do it. Why not? It's something else to do. You know what I'm saying? It could expand whatever else I'm doing. It might make people buy more beats or whatever the case is. Right.
SPEAKER_05You like doing it though?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's fun to me. I like getting dressed and shooting a video. Like, I get dressed every other day anyway, so it's just for me, it'd be like, it's just, it's fun. You know what I'm saying? It's fun. That's my little, my little release right there. I'll shoot a video or something, it's cool. Like, you know, a lot of people got a lot of music. What really were motivated that though is we me recording so much music and not hearing it no more. Like instead of me getting mad and cutting people off, I just was like, I'll shoot videos and do it myself. And maybe people might be like, well, dang, bro, do it. Well I need to maybe I need to start shooting videos, you know what I'm saying? Because 70% of people that record don't drop video. They probably just put the song out or whatever, and it's like that's what I mean by when I say when I set up a platform, it's only for who, you know what I mean, deserve it. Cause it's like, yeah, you can you could do music every day and call yourself a rapper or call yourself a producer, but if you're not really able to be organized with it or treat it as a priority, then that ain't what you doing. You know what I'm saying? Like, I don't look at somebody that's getting a whole bunch of views or whatever. It's like not a rapper, but if you you you you you get minimal views, but you really be serious about what you're doing, keep doing it. You really is what you is, because you put in the effort to it. So that's why I just was like, why not? You know what I mean? And I'm learning, I know what to do. I'm learning what to do with an artist probably one day. You get what I'm saying? Like, I never was just, I tried it a couple times, but I was learning with them too. So before I would ever like sign somebody and doing wrong, I'd rather know exactly how I'm supposed to go. You know what I'm saying? Like, I might pay for some promo or something and take it ill, but I'd rather do it for myself right now, so I know like what to do and what not to do when I'm able to maximize what I'm doing. You get what I'm saying? So it's you know, it's fun though.
SPEAKER_05Like, do you get mentored or coach? Or do I get it?
SPEAKER_03Like yeah, mentor the coach, or yeah, you have anyone that kind of um I got my guy producer Meets, he he is like, he was being the manager for plenty people. He did the whole NT Twins campaign, like he managed them. Um he got an artist little saucy right now, just signed a big, big deal. We probably gonna celebrate this upcoming week. Uh him, my guy TK, he been one of the top engineers like in the Midwest. Like, I talk to them all the time. They call me, like, they get mixes and stuff with artists is flip-flopping studios where they got a master stuff. I always get a call. Oh, you gotta come look at this, you did this wrong. Or no, hey, send me that one beat you did, bro. I got somebody in here. I need you to, you know what I mean? Like, I be needing that. If I'm not hearing from them for real, I go pull up on them or I'll call them. Cause all up until like I was doing music for like two years. I never seen a studio. I never like knew, I never seen one. And I came home from school, and that's the first thing they did, they had me coming around them every day, cause for two years, I kept them in business, cause it's people coming in with beats. You know what I'm saying? And like, it's one thing to have some people here and there come in, but like every session you do, every day, somebody coming in with beats from the same person. They would, they just they tapped in, and I've been real close with them ever since. And that's kind of who I talk to and go to for advice, business. I send them contracts and all of that stuff. We look over with each other, and so yeah, that's that's kind of who kind of mentored me for real.
SPEAKER_05Wow, that's what's up. The music is big, so you like really, real, really familiarized with the studio, the equipment.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Uh to a certain point, I know what I know. You get what I'm saying? But I always be learning though. Like, I just like I I take myself to school. You know what I mean? Because I just understand when you doing something and you're making money off of it, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't babysit it and just think it's gonna always be working the way it's working. Like, you gotta keep feeding it to your business to make it grow. You know what I'm saying? So I know in order to get a different type of clientele on recording, I gotta improve mixing. I gotta always be learning something new when it comes to mixing, or you know what I mean? I gotta be buying different songs. I'm always paying people, I pay, I pay plenty of musicians to send me guitar loops. You know what I mean? Like, bro, I don't care if it takes you two, three days, bro. I got a couple dollars for you. Send me something, just making something, just so I can always just, you know what I'm saying? Cause I just see, I see what the competition be doing, or, or I'ma say peers, people that's doing the same thing. I see what they be doing, and it just be like, once you find your own groove to do it, that's really all it's about. It's not really a set way to do stuff, it's having your own groove your own way. And just taking it serious though, and being disciplined with it, though.
SPEAKER_05What's some of the music you produced out here?
SPEAKER_03Um, I did some of I did a lot of stuff with them, young men, the NT Twins. Um, we had like uh, I'ma just probably name artists like Lil Chicken that's popular like that. Um Blessed Team, my guy Lil Fat. Um man, I ain't gonna lie, me saying names, I it's so hard, it's so hard, it's so hard. So I'ma say anything that's like, anything that's kind of like from the streets out of Milwaukee when it comes to the music, that kind of lane from anything from 2014 and on, like 65% of it, you know what I mean? Like, and it's other young producers that got on and that's going crazy now, too, since I done got started. But like I had a I had a whole two-year run where it was just me almost. You know what I'm saying? So anybody pretty much, I'm talking like every neighborhood. You know what I'm saying? Like for real, for real. Like it's that type of reach with it. So yeah, I'ma see it like that. So I don't miss nobody. Like, yeah. But like, man, like, yeah, we go everywhere we go, stores, you know what I mean? More is like so it's a good reach around the city.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah. Y'all know Taylor did our beat for GP after dark. Yeah, we did that. Yeah, yeah. He blessed us with our first beat. We gonna have some more, you know, when I was younger. That's what I one of my little past time. I thought I was we're gonna be a rapper. Ruppy, ripple. Listen, I thought I was gonna be a color little rapper too. I was just like, man, I used to I got a one little rap.
SPEAKER_00I was in a group. We we we uh we almost had a deal. It was around the time Baba was was popping. Uh we performed at Summerfest, Juneteenth. Uh we had a we had a and this was before social media, of course. Right.
SPEAKER_05Oh, this was when Black Plumet. Yeah, or before then.
SPEAKER_00You know, Black Plumet? No, no, no. We did the and then we had got a call. We did the talent show at school, and uh we did the Apollo, and then this lady, I can't remember her name, but her son had a record label, and uh he came up to us, and then we we chopped it up with him. It just didn't work out, but I mean my guy that I was in the group with, he still does it. Um I dabbled with beats and stuff like that. But I was always on a different, sonically on a different uh I was into like like keys and stuff being heavy implemented, which is a popular thing now. But that was you know, that wasn't a popular thing.
SPEAKER_03That was one of the things that I got on from because I ain't know how to pack the piano, so when I learned how to make something sound good, I just you know what I'm saying, but it'd be like I done learnt, and that's like one of the things that's like my signature now. I don't think too many people can around here like can do it the way I do it, because it ain't orthodox, you know what I'm saying? It's just it's just I'm just doing something, but uh it's gonna sound good though, you know what I'm saying? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Kind of like uh London. Uh yeah, he are. He he he got he got a nice sound where it's like it ain't just your typical uh black beat, but it's got a nice mesh with you know classical. Like he takes all instruments and make some and make some sauce.
SPEAKER_03So that's what's fun though. You can do anything.
SPEAKER_00It ain't no sad way, ain't no.
SPEAKER_03To me, it ain't no rules. Like, I mean, you know, you got people that's like they think it's rules or you know, you shouldn't do this if you use this. I don't feel like it's like that, because you know I mean, it's we it's a black, it's a at the end of the day, it's a black cultural thing. That's what it comes from. So like it came from something out of nothing. So if I go hit a can four times and I use that, then I can use that. You know what I'm saying? Like, I don't think it's no rule to do nothing. I don't feel like it's a T card or nothing like that. If it sounds good and you put it together, then it's crack talent.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, so yeah, exactly. Because sometimes you gotta work with what you have or nothing, you know. Sometimes just like computers, you know. Some people, me, I'm like black and white. I still use the planner, and they're gonna be like, oh, use your phone. And I'm like, I'm just old school.
SPEAKER_03I'm like that too, though. I write it.
SPEAKER_05I'm still old school for some reason. I I just love people like that.
SPEAKER_03People be looking at me crazy, like, would you still write like that? Like, I if I print, you ain't gonna be able to read it. I can write it cursive, though.
SPEAKER_05Do you deal with a lot of female artists?
SPEAKER_03Uh lately I have been probably in the last, like the last, I ain't gonna lie, since like the city girl thing, I ain't gonna lie, like we gotta get out here next last year, but I I give them their props though, because they doing hard. Yeah, girls be more organized and more. It's like school. I just told you that like last week. Like, they approach music and business the same way they did school. Like, they be more organized, they be having outfits for the videos, like it be cool though. Like, I like, I mean, I like having a balance, you know what I'm saying? Because more majority of them come to me because they was referred to me from somebody I was working with. So it'd be like you be want to take care of them like you would any female that come around you and you deal with it, you get cool with, he'd be like, all right, I'm gonna make sure you get yourself together, but hey, know how to put it out like this, whoopy whoop, which I'm gonna tell everybody. You get what I'm saying? But especially when you see somebody and you know they coming and they spending money or whatever the case is, it'd be like, all right, cool, this is how you go about it. So yeah, I have like the last year though, like ladies been they've been on it though. They really been doing a lot of merry.
SPEAKER_05Give it up to the ladies.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05We getting out here. So I think I'm gonna have to, I'm gonna be next. I'm gonna be one of the oldest lady rappers in Milwaukee, but you know, I ain't too too late. I gotta put something out for us, old cats.
SPEAKER_02Why not? Let y'all know, like forget it.
SPEAKER_05I'm gonna miss my retirement. Let me put a little smooth beat out here for you. Y'all wanna hear y'all wanna hear this little freestyle I got though?
SPEAKER_01What you got?
SPEAKER_05I need a beat.
SPEAKER_01You need a beat worry.
SPEAKER_05Nah, nah, I ain't gonna give it to you yet. I gotta, I gotta get a little organized and prepared for this. Uh uh, I'm not gonna do it yet.
SPEAKER_00I was ready too. I would have took back the man.
SPEAKER_05It would have been like 30 years ago, 30, 30 years, that first little freestyle rap. But I'm telling you, I get real smooth though, you know, end of the night with the girls. We be kicking it and uh yeah, I'll definitely make a flow for you right now. Uh-uh. I collaborate real good. Okay. Yeah, I'm gonna get out here.
SPEAKER_03That's the only way I could make me is though if I be in the in the mood, if I'm feeling good, like I can't, I can't. Or I gotta let a couple days go by where I just, you know what I'm saying, just stuff go on, and then I'll be like, all right, cool, I got something to talk about. That's how I be for real.
SPEAKER_05You feel like your pricing is fair?
SPEAKER_03Or you feel like you I mean, it's more than fair, like it's more than fair to me. Um just do it's just it is. It's I just know where I'm at, I know what market I'm in, and I know how to turn people off and how to lose business. You get what I'm saying? Like people tell you what they tell you, but I've been hustling since I was young, so it ain't been nothing for me to know how to take whatever it is I got and make the best out of. You get what I'm saying? So somebody could be charging four or five hundred dollars a beat around here, they ain't gonna get no business. You know what I'm saying? They're not gonna get no business now. That's somebody that certain business, when it's set up a certain type of way, then yeah, it's gonna be a certain premium or whatever it is. You get what I'm saying? But like as far as for the career, I keep it right, you know what I mean? Because I just feel like it's gonna be greater later. Like, I'm not really in no rush. I know how to hustle and how to handle what it is that I'm taking in, so I'm not gonna, you know what I mean, live beyond that or be getting a certain amount and be living in a certain type of way, or showing people that I'm living a certain type of way because my name is P so big, you know what I'm saying? And I could charge whatever because I got a name. Like, that don't always go hand in hand because something is, you know what I mean, branded and the price is high. It's like that don't always, it don't always work like that, I think. It's just gonna get greater later in my mind, you know. Uh I make it work, you know what I'm saying? Like I know what I'm doing, so it's like it's cool, you know what I'm saying? It could always be better, I guess. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_05But just keeping it comfortable and just really looking out for the right. Because you know, everybody they starting off, so you know, they the struggle be real, you know.
SPEAKER_03I feel like I set the standard though when nobody I started off charging what I charged. So yeah, I could have went up, but it was like people was getting, you know, a quarter of that. You get what I'm saying? Or or selling four or five beats for a quarter of what I was selling them for. You get what I'm saying? Like I went, I knew who I was dealing with, what type of dudes wanted what. So I knew how to get in where I fit in and how to make it work for myself and how to keep business coming. Like I didn't want to just have, I don't know, I just need the vision. Wasn't nobody doing what I was doing, so I didn't want to just have four or five people spending a certain amount of dollars, and then I'm obligated to deal with them, and I'm obligated to be flooding them. Like, I just rather everybody come as they go. You get what I'm saying? You know the price, so you know what you're coming to get, you know how it's gonna be, and it's just like I don't know, McDonald's ain't never went out of business, you get what I'm saying? So but they went up, you know what I mean? At some point, but as time went on, you know, 2010 years, you get what I'm saying? But I'm saying like McDonald's has been the same for the past 10 years, and but it's always a line on Friday, no matter what. No matter what I'm saying, but so that's just how I look at it. Like, as the market, as my market changes, you know, it's me understanding myself too, because you can hold too much value in yourself sometimes. People don't think that, but you can, you know what I'm saying? Like, you could play yourself out of something. It's not nothing wrong with thinking what you're thinking of yourself, but I don't know. I just understand if I catch 50 cents four times a day, I might feel good just struggling to go get a dollar, you know what I mean, out of one person. It's like I'm cool with that, you know what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_05After you make that, um when you when you charge that amount, do you still like make money off the artist?
SPEAKER_03Or yeah, that's that's that's the whole point of me trying to get people to have their business together. You get what I'm saying? Like, if you're serious and you spending money, we gonna make money, we're gonna always make money, and I'm gonna show you how. You know what I'm saying? Like, that right there alone, you should already feel, you know what I'm saying? Like it should be a percentage right there. It's just like that's why I encourage people that if you're doing music, like, and you're not getting certain relationships with people or whatever the case is, a lot of times, you know, bendings and make a person do something faster than anything. You know what I'm saying? Like knowing that you organized, like so. If I sell a beat, yeah, I get residuals on that. You know what I'm saying? If I sell you exclusive or whatever the case is, depending on how you're using it though, you know what I mean? Like if you're using it for profit, because you making a song or whatever and you bought it like that, then yeah, come on, let's make money. And I don't want too much. What's 10% of whatever it is you getting? And 95% of the time right now, you know, ain't nobody getting no real money back. You know what I'm saying? Like everybody's money is coming from something other than music for real or however it is around music, you know what I'm saying? But unless you go on doing crazy numbers, you ain't getting no big textbacks from no money. You get what I'm saying? So I do encourage people to have it together, but I don't be pressed about it because I know what's actually going on. You know what I'm saying? But I do have everything in line for, okay, you know, down the line, if your song just goes crazy or whatever, I'm still good. Like, we still gonna be good. I don't want to get into it with you. Don't get crazy with me and like not try to, I'ma show you that I don't want nothing, but let me just get what's me. You get what I'm saying? And that's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_05Well, with that being said, do you have people sign like paperwork?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I do. And um, majority of the time is when they have their stuff together, like they have management and stuff like that. You get what I'm saying? Like, that's usually when they come in. That's usually when it'd be a better pay too, though, when you're dealing with a record label. Like, I like dealing with them independently, because it'd be like, I don't know. They get you out the way. They, you know what I'm saying? Send the contract, it looks good, it's your number on there, that's what you want. Okay, we're gonna pay you this, and this is what you get off of this, and cool, you know what I'm saying? Like, right, that's what I like, me personally, you know what I'm saying? And that's that's why I like having connections when I got people that got three, four artists signed, and you know what I'm saying, and you know they paying literally almost ten times a beat what you chick, what you charging, just you know, the average person, but that's why you have connections, you know what I'm saying? Where I could get four, five of them calls in a month and know that that's cool. I can still go here and grab my little, you know what I mean, a couple of dollars and just consistently stay working, you know what I'm saying? Cause the way it goes I could probably filter somebody through one of them people and and and get a crazy check. You know what I'm saying? So, yeah, that's how I feel about it.
SPEAKER_05That's what's up. What can you say for a new upcoming artist that's trying to get in? Um advice. You can get a new artist. Maybe you can say go ahead.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, go do that for sure. Definitely probably be the first thing you think about doing, but um I think he spoke on it earlier, just the consistency.
SPEAKER_00For sure. Right. Like he was saying, I I thought about it because a lot of people like he said, you you just worry about the rapping and you ain't worried about the the art for your cover, you ain't worried about where you're gonna uh promote it at, you ain't worried about the music video, like he's saying, like and people just think about one aspect and not the whole thing. You gotta have a product together to get to that level that you wanna be.
SPEAKER_03Right now, the popular thing that people be saying is to tell somebody like, have your business together, ooh, boom, and that's cool, right? But it's like I think before you even think about that, it's just really just be confident that you doing what you want to do. You know what I'm saying? Because the first thing you do when you start making music, you're gonna have so many opinions, you're gonna have so much like, you know what I mean? I had it's Just I I don't know, stuff don't really bother me for real when people say stuff because I'm not really a talker anyway, so it just be like, oh, okay, cool. You know what I'm saying? But it be like, you just gonna hear so much stuff and it's gonna be inadvertently. They're not gonna even be trying to say it. It's just everybody not necessarily gonna be optimistic like you is about whatever. You get what I'm saying? So just really just be having confidence in yourself that you doing something right and you doing what you want to do, and then you know what I mean? That's just that's that's really my advice for real. Like, whatever sound you making, you know what I mean, just do it. You know what I'm saying? Don't keep asking nobody if they like it. Do you like it? Like, do you like it? You know what I'm saying? Because presentation is is crazy. You know what I'm saying? A person that got confidence could do almost anything, you know what I'm saying, and make everybody believe them. So just just just believe in yourself and have some confidence for me, bro.
SPEAKER_05Right. You ever do any shows in Milwaukee?
SPEAKER_03Um, I have. A lot of them is with other people, but I have. It be alright.
SPEAKER_05You like doing it?
SPEAKER_03I like it. Like, it's a good vibe. It just gotta be like, I don't know, home. I don't know. I will say it's a little different here. The party scenes is a little different. It'd be more stiff, it's more it's more serious, so it'll it's not really me.
SPEAKER_05People here, they kind of like when it comes to that, it's more like favoritism.
SPEAKER_03It reminds me of um to me. Definitely favoritism, 100% right. It reminds me of um Patent Fool. Like how everybody was, it's like I'm flying at you. I got, I you know what I'm saying? Like, it's just like it's too stiff for me as far as for me wanting to perform. I have had some good ones, but it be like, they'll know you and still mug you. You know what I'm saying? So you just gotta be performing on the right night and have the right promotion, like to have the right crowd. You gotta, you gotta have your own crowd for real. You can't go thinking like I'm finna come here and break a song and it's gonna be cold. Like, you gotta sell it, like you sell everything. You bring your people, you know. They sing the song with you and they turn up with you and make everybody else think this is the song I need to listen to. Because why they turned up like this, why we don't know this song, that's really what it's about for real. I think it's like that everywhere though, if you ask me. You get what I'm saying? Like, I think, but so it's cool in that sense. Like, we done had something where we did it the right way, and it it was cool, it was fun, you know what I mean? And then you got something where it's last minute and you go and then nobody comes to see you for real. You get what I'm saying? But I think that's gonna happen anywhere. So it's cool. Long as it's set up and it's promoted right, I'm all for it. I'm cool with it.
SPEAKER_05What's your what's what's some of you guys like favorite artists, artists or most listen music?
SPEAKER_00Musically, I'm all over the place. Right, I think I'm about to say I think uh like I'll listen to some odies. Uh it might be some RB, it might be some rap, it might be some jazz, like I'm I'm all over the place. It really depends on my mood. I'm I'm big on mood music, like my mood is just like that determined what I'm gonna listen to.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I think I'm pretty much about the same. Listen to it on a mood depending on the time of day, depending, yeah, how I'm feeling, and and the the lyrics, you know. I can listen to some people's lyrics and just vibe with them, or just a style and personality. Like sometimes you could just seem like you know people just by looking at them and vibing with them, and you can feel like, oh man, this is really dumb in real life.
SPEAKER_03That's what music is. Uh I don't know. I'm about to sing. I'm a 90s baby, so anything from that area, like whatever genre for real, I pretty much be playing all of that. Like, I play all 90s music for real. More than more than I do new music. It's just, I don't know, it was just, it's real. You know what I'm saying? It's just more real. Like, I feel like now with social media, the world's smaller, so it's so easy for somebody to say something that ain't that don't necessarily mean nothing to them, or you know what I'm saying? But like I think back then when they was making music, everything that they made was from what they seen and what they really had experienced and went through. So it's like it's more real. It's more from, you know what I mean, more from a person than it is a selling point. You know what I mean? I think we make music now to really just get a reaction out of people instead of this what I like. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, because you can be in that club and you're gonna hear that club bagger like, what you niggas at for the club? You gonna sign up with your people. The right one. Then you can come with like any mood, you just gonna vibe with it, like yeah.
SPEAKER_00Whatever the whatever the trend.
SPEAKER_05You'd be like, hold on now, don't, don't let them have done have that incredible hawk, that that Hennessy mix with that hypnotic, and then they gonna play some that hardcore music. Then the whole club shut down, bottles breaking, you know, people vibe, it be going hard, you know. It don't matter what you what you playing. Do you be writing your own music, Tay?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I don't even be writing no more. No? I can't. It's like, I don't know, anxiety said then. I'll be ready to just do the song. So yeah, I don't even write them no more.
SPEAKER_05You'll write for others?
SPEAKER_03I do the same process. Like, I have we done sold songs and we done sold songs to labels and stuff before, like that was cool, you know what I mean? Making a whole song and then you sell it somebody else, pretty much do it word for word, you know what I'm saying, and then you get the back end in and get paid. It's like, yeah, I like that. So I have, you know what I mean, basically made songs for people and wrote them or whatever.
SPEAKER_05How is that studio life? Is it uh all nighters?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, pretty much every day.
SPEAKER_05Every day.
SPEAKER_03Two, two. I don't like too much going later than two, but yeah, pretty much every day though. What's the latest, like about two, depending though, it depends, like I don't know. It depends. If it's one of my people, people then it's really like it's whatever.
SPEAKER_06How long they can go.
SPEAKER_03But for the most part, I don't know two, twelve, you know what I'm saying? Like, I don't know.
SPEAKER_05I don't I don't be wanting to be up too late, I'll be getting sleepy too, so what's the most song somebody one single artist have done probably and you had to kind of do stay music with it?
SPEAKER_03Like at once? Yeah. Like probably like five in one night?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, five, six, but how long do you usually take people to record that many songs?
SPEAKER_03It's all over the place. You got you got people come in with it rope and it's done, then you got the freestylers who think they freestyling and it might take. That's me, okay. It might take up two, two, three hours, but I don't know. I'm quick to like, I don't know. Before I be rude, I'll tell you to come back where I'd be like, man, go finish that.
SPEAKER_05Like, you know, get a little sleep, a little rest.
SPEAKER_03Because what I notice people won't be used to people just saying something to them. Like, you know, a person just sit there, let you try to swim till you sink. You know what I'm saying? And I tell you, you ain't doing it right. Like, so I just then got in the mode. Like, I can't help it. Like, I can't listen to it if it ain't right. So I'm gonna say something. Like, I'm gonna say something. So I don't know. I mean, I mean, thank God ain't nobody took it no type of way, but it'd be like, I just gotta say something. So if you take it too long or it ain't right, I gotta tell you, cause I don't want to be irritated with you. You get what I'm saying? Or be bleeding off like I'm not in the mood no more. So let me tell you something to get you right so we all can be happy and make it, you know what I mean, come alright like that. Like, so yeah, I'll stop it. Like, I don't like too long sessions. So if you're doing music, like, I don't know. Unless you just really trying to do it and hurry up and get stuff done and come back and fix it. I don't really advise people to do a whole bunch of songs, you know what I'm saying? Unless you won't prepare it already or something. Yeah, or you got beats from more than one person. You give a lot of saying, it'd be kind of hard with me to do that with one producer. That's a lot, a lot of like work.
SPEAKER_05Right. Alright, GP after dark, we got Ziggy in the building. What up, what up? Ziggy is our new upcoming artist coming up, you know.
SPEAKER_04Wait for the album.
SPEAKER_05Man, politicking, you guys, off music. We got the politicking off music up in here. Tay Love. Giving us a little bit of more. I got a funny story. It was a funny story.
SPEAKER_04Tay Love. So when I first met him, right, we all was calling him Tay Love on the B, Tay Love on the B, right? We all just every time we refer to him, it'll be Tay Love on the B, Tay Love on the B. So he like, one day he just like, you want to know something funny? I said, what? He said, I've never said that before. I said, really? He like, nah, I ain't never called myself Tay Love on the B. I'm like, dude, why we thought every song that came on say Tay Love on the B first. So what do it say? Tay Love. JJ say Tay Love.
SPEAKER_03He used to say Tay Love going crazy. That's what it used to say. I don't know where it came from. I think. Somebody just spread it a rumor, huh?
SPEAKER_05Tay Love.
SPEAKER_03Well, I know some people said it in some songs, and I think it just like everybody heard this. Yeah, it just was like you'd be somewhere in the mall or something like that, or everywhere you go, Taylor Mike. Like, it's cool, but I'd be like, that ain't my name for real. It's alright though, like I guess.
SPEAKER_05Do you got the um you got your fans out here? People know you? Sign them autographs.
SPEAKER_03No, I ain't doing that yet. Uh I mean it'd be like I can't really go nowhere and don't nobody know something or say something. That's it was different, but it's I guess it's cool now. You know what I mean? Um I don't know. I ain't no big talker, so it'd be like I don't be knowing. I don't be gonna lie, I'll be like, what up? No, you not.
SPEAKER_05When I first met you, I was like, okay, you don't talk. It's in the club, he was just chilling. Yeah, that I mean. Laid back out the scene, out the way. Like, right.
SPEAKER_03No matter when I go out or whatever, I don't know. I be cool. It's cool.
SPEAKER_05Just cool and right, real cool, real humble. But it ain't gonna come loud with them beats though. Got to so that's when that's that's facts right there. That's when it counts the most, is when you utilizing your craft and yeah, and doing what you have to do out here. So people gotta recognize that, you know, it's a definitely a business. And man, I can see some big things, and you know, the opportunities are definitely out here. So you know it it's gotta really go down and um get that big studio going. No. You you you like studio here, Wisconsin, or different state, or wherever you at, they kind of move back and forth.
SPEAKER_03They're kind of all the same at this point. I mean, you could they be more some be more luxurious than others. Um they kind of the same though. Me, I don't know. I use them all the same though. Like I sit down and record with the microphone in front of me, and unless it's just set up to where you can't, you know what I mean? I don't know. I kind of like I still do the same thing though, but everyone got a different vibe though for sure. Like everywhere you go, it's a different feeling. Like that is true. So that's the difference, you know what I mean. So that's about the difference between here and other places, it's just a vibe. Home is like everywhere I go, I don't know. This is even the studios here, they is you get a different feeling from them, but it be like a sense of comfort, you know what I'm saying? Any studio is, but you know how it is. Home is home.
SPEAKER_05Home is home. You got that vision of your um your own big studio studio?
SPEAKER_03I do, but I don't. Like, I do, but I've always been a home studio person. Like, I don't know, I always loved it, you know what I'm saying? But I understand how it's necessary sometimes, you know what I'm saying? So we do got one. It's like it'll probably, it will be done this year. Like, we just did the floor plan and all of that stuff. Like, so we gonna have one, you know what I mean? Like, and I always had one to go to it. I always went to, but I don't know. I just I always work a certain type of way in the crib, you know what I mean? It's just a certain I don't know. I can't explain it. It's probably just because that's where I started off at, and that's how I learned. Like, some people do start off in the studio and become like, you know what I mean, like just studio junkies, that's what they do. Like, I like being in the crib. It's more comfort. Yeah, and it's easy to comfort somebody else like that. You know what I'm saying? When you're dealing with people, it's easy to comfort them like that, control the room, just really like get a vibe off of a person, you know what I'm saying? Like, you go in somebody's house, you, your, your, your vibe gonna do something. You get what I'm saying? So if I got it a certain type of way, and we ain't clicking for real, then something really ain't right. You get what I'm saying? But if I get you in here and you, you know what I mean, you just you just take it for what it is, then we're gonna come out with something good. You know what I mean? That's where I think the benefit of just doing it at the crib comes from, because um, I don't know. I think you just be more or less a just, you know, you just think less. You just do whatever, you know what I'm saying? So yeah, that's what I be cool with.
SPEAKER_05You think about like violence or protection, security masters, things of that, you know? Yeah, all the things. What happened, especially being at home, and then you gotta let people in your your personal space, like.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the way I be moving, like, you know, I mean, I make sure everybody know, like, you know what I mean? Like, it's a threshold between us as far as like, you know what I mean? Like, I mean, just don't be, I don't know, don't play like that. You know what I'm saying? And then too, like, I'm big on, I don't I ain't really do, I don't do too much new sessions without kind of having, you know, two, three conversations. I don't looked at your page, I don't watch through a couple days. Like, that's me. You could write me, send me a message. Like, you know what I mean? People feel a type of way. I might not write you back for four days, but I did check you out though, see what's happening with you. Like, you get what I'm saying? Like, it's just, I don't know. To me, it's natural to do that. Like, so security-wise, like that's just how I am though.
SPEAKER_05So because you definitely want to check out and and see what people are all about. Sometimes I do that with interviews.
SPEAKER_03And then, like, when I do get people to come, it's like, you know, whoever ain't talking, I'm finna start talking to you. And I ain't even no talking to the person, but um, I am dominant as far as like I like I like to be in control, like whether it's with a room full of dudes or whatever, like, so she laughing. That's okay though. I do though, you know what I'm saying? Whether it's with a room full of men or whatever the case is, though, I you know, I just got an alpha sense of way of moving. So I don't know. Like, I'm gonna ask everybody questions, I'm gonna start talking, you know what I'm saying? Like, before I be uncomfortable, you're gonna be uncomfortable around me. You get what I'm saying? So, and then that's gonna show before anything. So when it comes to that, that's kind of how I move with it now. It's like you do, you it is some sense of vulnerability, you know what I mean? Because you in one spot, but I learned that it's like that with everywhere you record or whatever it is you do, you know what I'm saying? So it's just a matter of you just done not never really letting your head down, you know what I mean? It just you gotta be on guard, period. You know what I mean? Right, definitely gotta be on point. That's that's kind of how I handle that though. Check everybody out, make sure everybody's cool.
SPEAKER_05Alrighty. Mm-hmm. That's Taylor for you guys out here politicking. Got a new little baby going on, the little baby got on the beats.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03He likes it though. He be down there cooling. My youngest son, he loves me. My oldest, he be in and all. Do he be like vibing with it or he more of a he watching all my videos. Like, I'm gonna pull it up, or we get in the car, he wants to hear one of the videos. Yeah, you want to hear it.
SPEAKER_05I love Taylor, I love Taylor.
SPEAKER_03You know what I'm saying? So it's cool. I like it. They gonna, they gonna be something, they're gonna be doing something with it.
SPEAKER_05So something with something and right in music.
SPEAKER_03They've been around forever. Like, look, he's been going to the studio just forever. You know what I'm saying? Like spending days in there with me, all of that. I'll babysit him in the studio for eight hours, whatever, you know what I'm saying? So it's just gonna be natural. That's what's it's gonna happen when they do it. So when they pick it up, is when they pick it up. I'm gonna let them do their thing.
SPEAKER_05Sometimes they might just be tired of uh tired of me right now. Tired of the music. Like, man, I heard this all my life. But he they gonna know a real good sound when they see it. Like, now sound, right? I think you need to right. Like, nah.
SPEAKER_03Can he play? Right now, what he do is when he describes a song, he do the beat, he hum the beat. He don't know the words, he hum the beat, he and I don't be knowing what he's talking about. You know what I'm saying? But it's like, I don't know, I take note of that though. Like, he he humming the beat. You know what I'm saying? Like, that means something like that's what he's hearing for real. He's vibing to that. So he's that singer.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, he be singing. I done call him singing a couple times. I like Carl Hill singing, yeah. I don't know what you doing. He'll be like, no, they're singing a song. I'll be like, okay.
SPEAKER_05Right. Well you guys, I don't know, getting to that 10th hour. Uh anything else you can put out here?
SPEAKER_03Um tap in, man.
SPEAKER_02A lot of clothes coming soon.
SPEAKER_03A lot of voice coming soon. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05What type of clothes?
SPEAKER_03Just um, I'm gonna start off with my logo, but I've been doing a lot of stuff in regards to the word slap. You know what I mean? That's kind of like the name of the of the genre of music here. They call it slap music. And I think I help create the name and the sound, you know what I'm saying? Right. Everybody will tell you that pretty much. So that's where slap house comes from. It's like, you know what I mean? It's the headquarters of that sound, you know what I'm saying? So I'm gonna have a lot of clothes coming out in relation to that, but the designs is not corny. It ain't just I'm selling you a record label or you know what I mean? It's gonna be like, I got some stuff, it's it's gonna be nice. And I I'm aware, so I feel like if I'm aware, you should wear it. You know what I'm saying? You should be fresh like I'm fresh.
SPEAKER_05So we gotta, you know, definitely, you know, represent and put our people on the map and start um recognizing, you know, especially our African Americans out here in their business and wearing them clothes. Because if we can go and wear anything else and put it on the map, you know, let's put ourselves out there.
SPEAKER_03I got a lot of clothes from from just dudes that I know that be around. I put up, I'm buying t-shirts, I'm buying hoodies. Because I like, I number one, I like it, but it's like I just understand the black dollar, like, man. You know what I'm saying? Like, I've been shopping for you, now I got clothes. Like one of the dudes, he got a nice, a big clothing line out here. He put me on with some cold vendors, and you know what I mean? That is gonna do exactly what I asked for. You know what I'm saying? So it was like that came from me spending money with him, though. You know what I'm saying? Without me asking for nothing. I didn't come up with that idea till after I've been shopping with him already. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_05Most of the time, people they want to sell, they connect and vend. I ain't never heard about stuff like that. Like, they be selling up for like two, three hundred dollars. Like just to give you a resource.
SPEAKER_03That's like me telling you five dollars, and then I'm gonna tell you I got this shirt from from from footlocker.com.
SPEAKER_05Right, or people steal your stuff, still I done heard people, you know, you steal your cell phone and then you call and looking for it, like sell it back to you, like, man, let me let me just get this my connect line. Come on now. So yeah, it just be, it just kind of be difficult nowadays. I understand that, you know, competition is it be steep or whatever, but I just look at it as two, you know, you're gonna be blessed when you can you can pass it. And if you're doing something different from the next individual, you won't have to worry about the competition.
SPEAKER_03If you're confident, if you you secure in what you're doing, you think your business playing cool and you're straight, you shouldn't worry about nobody else doing the same thing. You got your people. You, you know what I mean? Like if that's the case, I wouldn't, I'd be into it. Everybody that's making beats right now, you know what I'm saying? But I I tap in with them, you mean if I don't know them. I see they got four or five songs and they had I've been write you and say something. Right. And a lot of times people be surprised that I said something, you know what I'm saying? But I don't be thinking of it like that. But now I know I understand the power and the weight. So it'd be like I do it more than I ever have, because it'd be like, I don't want nobody to be like, dude, ain't mess with me. I probably ain't invite you to where I was at, but I told you you was doing good to me. Like, I don't know, that means something. You get what I'm saying? Like, you know, somebody see what you doing, keep doing what you're doing. People don't hear that a lot.
SPEAKER_05So yeah, I think after time in business, you you learn that over time and growth of being able to kind of spread, spread that because you do feel some type of insecurity to be like, man, I you know, push it out there. But when you start growing, you start acknowledging, you know, the ways that you can pour into your your own people and help the next connection. And it's really helping you with your own outreach. And you know, right. And people don't know that, and it's just like that's what's wrong with the black community. Because we we don't stick together and pour into each other or ensure that we we coming up. And you know, a lot of cultures, that's what they do. They they man, they stick together and they help, they, they, they people make money and keep that money flowing in their own community. But instead of us like helping each other and bringing that money into.
SPEAKER_00the community community we attack you know each other and we like hating and and oh I gotta let me hit to this point or let me hide you know you know you got your trade secrets you know you do have trade secrets be like man people take your ideas and they'll go and rush it really thick you know really quickly before you and it you know and it'd be like day you know because some things you know you definitely want to keep on a the pipeline or you just tell people you know be patient be patient for them doors to open for you for the next person to bless you and put you in you're gonna learn something a little bit more that you probably didn't learn but yeah what you were saying I was just gonna say this day and age um secrets is that's the way of letting people know um and just speaking from my area of expertise in graphic design tips to other graphic designers is it just helps your platform because then say for example everybody here didn't know what a color palette was me just saying tip of the day blah blah blah color palette now you have more insight so when you speak to a graphic designer you know what they're talking about you know I mean and then in that turns that uh gets you engaged with what I what I put out so that helps build your brand as well just uh ain't no more um keeping grandma's recipe you know I mean like no it's you know let let people know the recipe because that's what's gonna uh have them tune it in to what you're doing and get more insight on who you are I learned that from like football though because like a lot of the stuff that I learned that I got better with I just learned from somebody you know I mean like another player another teammate for real like I most of the stuff I learned didn't come from no coach didn't come from nobody that was already an expert it came from me liking the way somebody else did something and I learned from them and it's like I do that with everything you know what I'm saying it's the same way like I don't got no problem asking somebody where they got something from if I'm comfortable with asking them I'ma say that you get what I'm saying but it's like it ain't nothing wrong with that and it ain't nothing wrong with you telling people you get what I'm saying like you don't gotta give them the way you do what you do but it ain't nothing wrong with taking them to the water you get what I'm saying like in my experience in business it was more like individuals will you know want the help of what you doing but more more likely not want your advice or help really want you to do the work and it's like hey I can give you A to Z, but you got to get out here and put in that footwork.
SPEAKER_05You know individuals they don't want that footwork they just want to jump all in. Then they don't want no dollar sign on it you know like I can charge you because guess what I'm paying like 10 people to do everything I know how to do anything somebody doing for me I can do it myself but I don't have the time for it so I'm gonna take time give you a little game put in that work to let me know you acknowledging this is really what you want to do for somebody spend time.
SPEAKER_03That's like what I you know what I'm saying that's the same thing like I ain't gonna put you in front of nobody that's willing to do XYZ and expand what you're doing if you can't meet them or me halfway you get what I'm saying that's really what it comes with anything like ain't nobody gonna give you nothing you ain't gonna work to get for yourself. Right.
SPEAKER_05And then I want to know like where your passion at before I spend time you know I don't care if you pay me or not that's just like paying me to do your hair listen you done pay even though you paid me I want to see this this sew in in for at least a month you done took it down but they be like oh I done paid you but like no it ain't about that it's just about how you want to see that work and keep it going. So really just have that passion of what you what you're doing for others to really be um believing you you know what I'm saying really just grind for you and just you know definitely know that what what you're doing it for and you know and just having the patience but we definitely got to come together more in a community and um definitely you know help each other and put a little bit more and I have learned that you know more and more in business to be like man only us um black people can advocate for ourselves so as we if we attacking each other we don't we ain't coming together advocate for some of the change that need to be made out here because it's so many different things in the industry of everybody service that they uh selling that we can come together and advocate more to come one you know what I'm saying one union versus all over the place so therefore it's like we we attacking one another then our our word of mouth our word ain't getting out here it ain't getting heard you know what I'm saying because we we against each other and not being with one another you know give each other second chances either you know you go to a black restaurant you had a bad experience you go on Facebook blasting them instead of saying let me go again maybe you know maybe they had a bad day that day or whatever the case may be yeah we we be quick to bash right black businesses instead of giving them a a second chance because you would go to you know that Walgreens that's owned by you know a white man and had a bad experience but you you go back to that Walgreens. You don't go right back right so yeah that's that's more of what we we gotta do more to and um put ourselves out here because I think we can be uh better leaders and um pull down some of the the um violence and things of that nature so that's my thought you know what I'm saying just trying to keep it real and get out here but um as you know it you know hit us up GP after dark hit Tay Love up you want them beats you want it real you want to be a rapper like me you better get them Tay Love beats because he out here y'all and he making it you know so what'd you say Ziggy what'd you say put it out there I said Code us in the city Codis in the city right Tay Love what Tay Love on the beat but yeah we um definitely appreciate you day thank you thank you for taking your time out to come kick it with GP after dark definitely don't be a stranger come back come through when I'm ready to get out here I'm gonna definitely get out here when I get to throwing these concerts hey Tay Love I'm gonna need you out here too yes we ready we we we doing what we do know I'm doing a concert for real for my birthday that big 40th I gotta that's really the pipeline so you know I'm gonna need you on that stage get ready for it get ready for it but thank you so much thank you pair today and Ziggy for joining us and you know we're doing numbers as well for show out here so till the next time you guys we a holla peace peace
